TRANSPARENCY

Fast fashion is damaging not only the environment but the people who produce it. We consider slow fashion as the only sustainable future for the industry and the planet. Of the one hundred billion clothing items produced annually, 20 billion textiles end up in landfills every year. Some soles may last up to 1,000 years in a landfill and about 90% of shoes still end up in landfills. One way to prevent this would be to recycle them. We are committed to creating hand-crafted, high-quality products that are non-polluting and sustainably sourced.  

WE USE SUSTAINABLE MATERIALS 

GOODYEAR WELT
Goodyear welting is a shoe construction technique that has been in use for over 100 years and is known for its durability and longevity. The process involves stitching a leather strip, known as the welt, to the upper part of the shoe, and then stitching the sole to the welt. This creates a tight seal that makes the shoe more water-resistant and durable. The Goodyear welted construction technique is also eco-friendly because it allows shoes to be easily repaired and resoled, extending the life of the shoe and reducing waste. In addition, because the shoes are designed to last longer, fewer resources are needed to produce new shoes, making it a more sustainable choice.
LEATHER SOLES
We take great pride in our boots, which all feature leather soles paired with either a layer of natural rubber or natural rubber heels to provide exceptional traction on slippery surfaces.
CREPE RUBBER SOLES
Our decision to incorporate Crepe soles in some of our huaraches design is based on their exceptional qualities. These soles are made from the latex of the Pará rubber tree, which is primarily grown in South America and is a major source of natural rubber. The use of this material makes our Crepe soles highly durable, soft, flexible, lightweight, and biodegradable. By harnessing the power of natural materials, we are able to create shoes that are not only comfortable to wear but are also environmentally sustainable.
FULL GRAIN LEATHER
At our Harmonica, we take great care to ensure that our shoes are crafted using the highest quality materials that are also environmentally responsible. This is why we exclusively use full-grain vegetable-tanned leather, which is a byproduct of the meat industry, sourced only from certified tanneries. Vegetable tanning is one of the most sustainable leather production methods in use today, and it involves using natural vegetable tannins to transform the protein structure of the hide. This process preserves the natural characteristics of the leather while also strengthening it and imparting rich, warm colors. By selecting vegetable-tanned leather, we not only create shoes that are both beautiful and durable but also reduce our environmental footprint and promote sustainable production practices.

Although Harmonica is focused on sustainability, we are aware we are far from perfect. We can do better together.
