At Harmonica, leather is more than a material. It is a way to honour skilled craftsmanship and create timeless pieces meant to be worn and loved.

01 / Giving hides a second life

Our cowhide leather comes from hides sourced through the meat supply chain. Cattle are not raised or slaughtered specifically for Harmonica shoes. Using hides makes use of more of the animal, though hides are valuable materials with other uses.

02 / From hide to leather

Before a hide becomes footwear, it must be preserved, cleaned, tanned and finished. Tanning transforms perishable hide into leather that can be shaped, cut and woven. The process can require water, energy and chemicals, so responsible handling and wastewater treatment matter. We do not claim leather is impact-free.

03 / Woven by skilled hands

In Mexico, artisans cut and weave leather strips into the intricate patterns of traditional huaraches. This craft requires patience and precision. The natural variations in leather grain and tone make every pair a little different.

04 / A thoughtful choice, with real trade-offs

Making use of a by-product: Cowhide can be transformed into something useful.

Durability: Well-made leather footwear can soften beautifully and last with proper care.

Craftsmanship: Small-batch production values skilled handwork.

Timeless style: Our designs are intended for many seasons of wear.

Leather also has an environmental footprint from livestock production and tanning. Natural materials are not automatically lower-impact than synthetic alternatives; sourcing, processing and longevity all matter.

05 / Wear the story

From the texture of the leather to the care of the maker, every detail carries a story. Our hope is to make shoes you love enough to wear again and again.
