Fair Pay for Makers: Valuing the People Behind Our Shoes - Harmonica
All Know more about us

Behind a handmade shoe is a person whose work deserves to be valued. At Harmonica, we pay our artisan partners fairly for their skilled work. Fair compensation is part of our commitment to Mexican craftsmanship and to the people who bring our designs to life.

Skill has value

A finished pair contains much more than leather. It reflects the experience needed to prepare the materials, work a woven upper, shape the shoe and bring its parts together. These stages take time and judgement. The price of handmade footwear should recognise that contribution.

We want the people behind our shoes to be visible in our brand story. Workshop photographs and our Meet the Artisans page show some of that work, so customers can connect the finished product with the hands that made it.

Fairness is part of our relationships

Our approach begins with a straightforward principle: makers are essential partners in Harmonica. Their contribution deserves respect, and their skilled work deserves fair pay. We want our relationships to reflect the care they put into the shoes.

This is why we talk about compensation alongside craftsmanship. Celebrating a beautiful weave means recognising the person who created it. The two belong together.

What your purchase represents

When you choose a Harmonica pair, you are choosing footwear made through our artisan partnerships in Mexico. Those partnerships are part of the product’s story. We do not assign a donation amount to a purchase or promise a particular outcome for an individual maker; our commitment is to value their work through how we work with them.

We will continue sharing the making process so that the people behind our collection have a place on the website, alongside the shoes themselves.
